Summertime is here! Unfortunately, that brings a host of beauty woes.
Need some quick fixes? Read on.
Nix Facial Redness
If you have the misfortune of suffering from rosacea, you probably know that sun exposure or rising temperatures can trigger a flare-up. The heat makes ruddiness worse because it tends to cause blood vessels to dilate.
Lavender to the rescue! Lavender contains two phytochemicals (linalool and ester linalyl acetate) that act as an anti-inflammatory and constrict blood vessels to reduce facial redness.
As an added bonus, this healing oil helps to ease minor irritations due to its mild analgesic effect.
Quick Fix: For a more even skin tone, mix a quarter-size amount of your daily moisturizer with 2 drops of lavender essential oil.
Stop Oily Skin In Its Tracks
When the humidity soars, so does your skin's oil production.
To keep shine at bay, try adding a bit of apple cider vinegar to your beauty routine. The vinegar acts as an astringent to rid your face of excess oil. Apple cider vinegar also causes facial pores to shrink, which limits oil secretion. As a final bonus, the alpha hydroxy acids found in apple cider vinegar help to exfoliate the skin.
Quick Fix: Mix 1 Tablespoon of your favorite face mask with 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Apply to your face and rinse after 15 minutes.
Summertime is the perfect time to wear those cute sandals and flip flops hiding in your closet. Unfortunately, the extra exposure to the heat and elements can cause your heels to dry and crack.
If you're struggling with rough heels, try combining your favorite body lotion with sea salt.
Sea salt is a source of rich minerals, like calcium, zinc, potassium, and magnesium. These work with the lotion to restore moisture and heal cracks, while the rough texture works to slough off dead skin.
Quick Fix: Mix a handful of your favorite body lotion with 1/4 cup of sea salt. Massage into heels for 1 minute before rinsing.
Summer heat causes pores to open up. This allows sweat, sunscreen, dirt, impurities, and other toxins to seep into your skin and cause your back to break out in blemishes.
Try pairing your body wash with activated charcoal. The charcoal acts like a magnet to soak up contaminants while whisking away the dead skin cells and debris that can clog pores.
Quick Fix: Wash your body with a dollop of your favorite body wash mixed with 1 teaspoon of activated charcoal. Rinse well.
